FOREVER CHANGES marked a creative breakthrough for Love in 1967, radically expanding the Los Angeles quintet’s musical vocabulary, from the sophisticated arrangements of “Alone Again Or” to the adventurous instrumentation of “The Red Telephone.” Produced by Bruce Botnick and Arthur Lee, the album captured Love at their most ambitious, with David Angel’s inventive string and horn arrangements adding new dimensions to “Andmoreagain” and “You Set The Scene.”
FOREVER CHANGES was the swan song for Love’s definitive lineup of Arthur Lee, Bryan McLean, Johnny Echols, Ken Forssi, and Michael Stuart-Ware. While the album earned positive reviews when it was released, its sales were modest at the time. As Mike Stax explains in the new liner notes, “It was only with the passage of time that its magic came to be appreciated and the album recognized for what it is: a masterpiece… Forever Changes continues to find new generations of listeners. What was once a time capsule is now a monument for the ages.”
